Changes to the tariff, discounts and regulations from August
The City Council of the Capital City of Warsaw has adopted resolutions on important changes to the current ticket tariff, the catalogue of persons entitled to discount or free travel, as well as to the regulations on transport. The changes will be beneficial to both the inhabitants of Warsaw and Warsaw agglomeration. The changes will become effective from 1 August this year.
CHANGES TO THE VARSOVIAN TICKET
New discounts have been introduced for the persons living in Warsaw and filing personal income tax returns in Warsaw tax offices. At present, only those who are not entitled to other discounts can use the Varsovian ticket. The resolution provides for the implementation of the so-called Discount Varsovian Ticket for all persons who are now entitled to travel with 50-percent fare rides, that is, pensioners and retirees until they turn 70, moderately disabled individuals after they turn 26, individuals declared as totally unable to work after they turn 26, doctoral program students until they turn 35 and the individuals entitled under specific laws (for example, students or combatants). The price of the Discount Varsovian Card will be the same as of the Young Varsovian Ticket. For example, a 30-day ticket valid in zone I only will cost PLN 49.00 (the price of ticket with a 50-percent discount for a person not entitled to the Discount Varsovian Ticket โ PLN 55.00).
In addition, the Young Varsovian Ticket has been introduced, which will be valid in zone I and II, as well as the Varsovian Ticket and Young Varsovian Ticket valid in zone II only. At present, the Young Varsovian Ticket is valid in zone I only.
OTHER CHANGES TO THE TARIFF
Tickets valid in zone II only
Long-term personal travel cards valid in zone II only have been introduced. This offer is addressed to those inhabitants of Warsaw agglomeration who travel by public transport only in the so-called suburban zone. At present, they have to buy long-term travel cards which are valid in both zones. The implementation of a travel card for zone II will make it possible for them to reduce travel costs. The 30-day personal travel card valid in both zones now costs PLN 210.00. The same ticket, but valid in zone II only will cost merely PLN 112.00. The differences in the case of a 90-day personal travel card will be even larger. The travel card valid in both zones costs PLN 536.00, whilst the travel card for zone II only will cost as little as PLN 282.00.
Warsaw+
This offer is addressed to the communes located around Warsaw, which decide to introduce a special card for their inhabitants. Inhabitants of the communes in which this card will begin to function and which decide to initiate cooperation with ZTM will be able to use cheaper long-term travel cards valid in both zones. For example, the current price of the 30-day personal travel card valid in both zones is PLN 210.00. A holder of the inhabitant’s card from a commune which will join the Warsaw+ offer will only pay PLN 196.00. The remaining amount will be paid by the local government. The savings on the 90-day travel card will be even higher, as its regular price is PLN 536.00 (for both zones), whilst a holder of the card will pay merely PLN 482.00.
This offer is going to be introduced on 1 August in Marki; however, it was sent to all the communes of Warsaw agglomeration in which ZTM operates.
Refund of an unused part of a travel card
A possibility of refund of an unused part of a long-term travel card if it is removed from a card after encoding a contract of another type or kind has also been introduced.
Using single fare tickets
The period in which the use of “old” single fare tickets as single fare transfer tickets has been extended. It will be possible to use them until the end of 2015.
CHANGES TO DISCOUNTS
Children and youth
The maximum age of children and youth entitled to discount travel has been unified. The discount will be in force until 30 September of the year in which they turn 21. It applies to schoolchildren from the families with four or more children, children from family-type children’s homes, foster families, family-type educational care centres, socialization, intervention and specialized therapeutic centres, as well as youth from the age of 17, entitled to discount travel.
Children from educational care centres
Children from socialization, intervention and specialized therapeutic educational care centres have been granted the entitlement to free travel. The document confirming it will be the personalized Warsaw City Card issued by ZTM upon presentation of a certificate issued by the Warsaw Family Assistance Centre.
Doctoral program students
The maximum age to which doctoral program students are entitled to a discount on long-term travel cards has been extended to the age of 35 (currently โ until the age of 30). Thus, the regulations concerning doctoral program students were harmonized with those in force for interurban and railway transport.
CHANGES TO THE REGULATIONS
From 1 August, infringing upon any of the order provisions listed in the regulations will be deemed to be a minor offence under art. 54 of the Code of Minor Offences (a minor offence against order provisions on conduct in public places), which will make it possible for order-keeping services to enforce them more effectively. The minor offences will include, among others, smoking or using e-cigarettes in vehicles, drinking alcohol, begging, playing musical instruments, sitting on protective rails and jumping over the gates at underground stations. Such minor offences are subject to the penalty of fine of up to PLN 500.00.
