Modernity on rails
The super modern SKM train has been running within the line S-2 since April 9. It connects Sulejówek with Pruszków. That is the first out of four vehicles which will enter rails till the end of June. New trains provide comfortable and safe travelling and additional places for passengers.
The 19WE train is equipped with ten pairs of doors, which enables fast exchange of passengers at stops. It is very spacious inside and can take 700 persons. Some seats were installed in a similar way to the one typical for the underground cars. Huge amount of handles enables safe journey for standing passengers. The train is very quiet due to the pneumatic suspension and half axle drive guarantees considerable acceleration of the vehicle.
Monitoring and air-condition ensure safe and comfortable travelling. The train is also equipped with voice and visual passenger information. Trains are fully adjusted to the needs of disabled persons – ramps enabling wheelchairs to enter vehicle have been installed by each end door. Besides, passengers have handles to transport bikes and two ticket machines at their disposal.
Owing to new trains, it will be possible to combine older trains running so far during the rush hour. It will give more places between Pruszków and Sulejówek during these parts of day when SKM is used by most passengers.
All four trans will be delivered by NEWAG S.A. from Nowy Sącz, based on the leasing contract signed with ING Lease (Poland). The contract was concluded for 15 years and is about PLN 87 billion net worth.
The second 19WE train will transport inhabitants of the Warsaw conurbation starting from April. The next two trains will have entered the route by mid-June.
SKM implements new investments. The contract for delivery of 13 subsequent trains was signed in the first half of March. The first ones will appear in Warsaw in the middle of next year. Trains produced by PESA from Bydgoszcz will be used to operate within the line connecting the city center and the Warsaw Chopin airport.
