New era that is …Swing on rails
The first of the 120 Na type 186 trams produced by PESA from Bydgoszcz appeared in the streets of Warsaw. Swing will revolutionize look and comfort of using public transport in Warsaw – said the president of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz on Saturday. June 12 will be compared with March, 26 1908 when electric tram was launched in Warsaw – added the president.
The modern tram is fully air-conditioned and equipped with video monitoring, modern LCD displays with information for passengers and ticket selling machine. Each car can take 201 passengers and has 40 seats. A low-floor tram is fully adjusted to the needs of the disabled. It is also very safe because of special crumple zone used in it (which absorbs energy during a collision), which protects a motorman and passengers, as well as a tram itself from more considerable damages.
By the end of 2010, 33 trams of the new type will have entered the Warsaw tram lines. 120 trains will be delivered to Warsaw for the EURO 2012 and the remaining 66 “Swings” will get to Warsaw till the end of 2013. 31 trams will operate within the new tram line to Tarchomin (on the route of the North Bridge).
Warsaw trams opened a New chapter of their history. At the beginning of the 20th century the first electric tram of the A type amazed inhabitants of Warsaw. It was the beginning of over 100 history of the Warsaw Electric Tram. Between the 50s and the 60s the first fast tram of the 13N type entered Warsaw tram lines and became a symbol of the capital city soon. In difficult decades of the 70s and the 80s trams were replaced by vehicles of the 105 N type.
Trams of the 13N and 105N types dominate now on the Warsaw tram lines but owing to the delivery of 186 trams from PESA from Bydgoszcz, 40% of the old type trams will be replaced.
