Air-condition has to work during heats
More than one third of Warsaw buses is air-conditioned. According to the provisions of contracts signed with carriers, devices have to work and be used in a way that minimizes influence of high temperatures on the comfort of travelling. Warsaw Transport Authority increased the number of inspections and is responding to the signals from passengers.
All bus carriers – Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe as well as the companies Mobilis, PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki and ITS Michalczewski are obliged, by virtue of the contracts, to keep the temperature in vehicles between 18 – 25 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is above 25 degrees, air-condition should turn on automatically.
Air-condition inspection has recently been one of the priorities of the actions undertaken by the ZTM public transport traffic inspectors. Since the beginning of July, as a result of such inspections, 230 fines were imposed on carriers after uncovering irregularities (MZA – 29, Mobilis – 60, PKS Grodzisk – 117, ITS Michalczewski – 24). In some cases, irregularities were connected with not using “warm button” by drivers (in air-conditioned vehicles passengers should open door themselves during the whole day).
Passengers may inform ZTM about improper functioning of air-condition in vehicles of public transport calling the hotline (22) 194 84.
Information about not working air-condition which is directed to ZTM is a reason to control a vehicle pointed by the passenger.
Notifications concerning a driver who refused to turn on air-condition are sent to the proper carrier that should explain the situation and take appropriate measures towards its employee in case of justified accusations. If a passenger leaves his/her personal and address data together with the notification, the notification is treated as an official complaint. In such a case, after sending information to the carrier, it is obliged not only to check it but also to give the passenger an explanation in writing.
627 out of about 1.5 thousand buses which enter the Warsaw streets during the rush hour are air-conditioned. Equipping buses with air-condition is one of the tender requirements put by ZTM against carriers.
