Over 200 new parking places for bicycles
Bicycle parks available within the P+R system are more and more popular with two-wheeled vehicle owners. That is why ZTM has decided to extend the system and place racks also at bus terminuses. In July, 230 additional places for bicycles were created.
Bicycle racks have appeared in several new places, among others at bus terminuses of districts: Górczewska, Chomiczówka, Gocław, Kępa Zawadowska, Rembertów Kolonia, Szczęśliwice, Targówek and Żerań. Additional devices made of stainless steel were also installed in five P+R parks (Młociny, Metro Marymont, Ursynów, Wilanowska and Anin). Their shape resembles turned U letter. They will enable passengers a convenient change from a two-wheeled vehicle to public transport.
Within the cooperation with the lowery.pl website, some tools will be made available free of charge for vehicle owners in seven P+R parks. Owing to them it will be possible to make the simplest repairs like tightening screws, pumping up a wheel or patching a tube.
The special interactive map of bicycle parks can be found on the ZTM website. There you can check an exact location, number and type of available racks.
Locations of all racks have been listed on the basis of “Program rozwoju ruchu rowerowego w Warszawie” (program of cycling development in Warsaw) drawn up on the order of the Roads and Public Transportation Department of the Warsaw Municipal Government Office.
At present cyclists have 390 places for bicycles located in 22 places around the whole city at their disposal.
ZTM is planning to extend the rack system – the number of places for bicycles will have been doubled by the end of 2011. Places for bicycles will appear both in newly built and reconstructed buildings – at bus terminuses and in car parks, among others at the Bródno Podgrodzie and Olszynka Grochowska terminuses as well as in a new P+R park at al. Krakowska, which is under construction.
