Construction of underground enters downtown
Construction of the central section of the second line of the underground has reached the center of Warsaw. Due to the next stage of works, the residents of Warsaw will experience inconveniences. From the beginning of June, they will not be able to enter Sokola and Świętokrzyska streets. The streets will be reconnected to the traffic after construction is completed.
Since 4th of June, Sokola street will be closed – from Wybrzeże Szczecińskie street to Zamoyskiego street. The traffic on Grzybowska street will be limited, Prosta and Świętokrzyska streets will be closed from Daszyński roundabout to Jasna street.
The planned closure of Prosta and Świętokrzyska streets is connected with the building of ONZ Roundabout (C10) and Świętokrzyska Station (C11) together with ventilation unit rooms (V10 and V11) and the reconstruction of the water, sewage and telecom collisions. Within the framework of the additional, essential works, the tram track system and the traction network will be disassembled on Prosta street, the trees will be cut down as a base for ventilation unit rooms V11, the chamber for TBM shield disassembly will be built and the ground underneath the currently constructed link of the first and second underground lines will be reinforced.
In the Sokolowska street area, Stadion station (V14) together with the ventilation unit rooms (V14) will be built.
Public transport during the construction of the second underground line.
Changes in public transport which will be introduced during the next stages of the construction of the central section of the second underground line will affect not only the city center (Śródmieście) but also Bemowo, Wola, Praga Północ, Targówek oraz Ochota. They will help to improve journey time with public transport in the new traffic situation. They will also minimize the influence of the inconvenience on public transport. Due to these changes, the stock will be used in a more effective way and the passengers will have a reduced waiting time at the bus stops.
Waiting time for the passengers travelling to the city center from Bremowo and Wola, will be reduced from 10 min. on average to only 3-4 minutes. This is possible due to the replacement of the bus lines running on long routes, irregularly and with low frequency with the lines running on the shorter routes but very frequently!
The new schedule of the public transport will be functioning until the works on the central section of the second underground line are completed, which is set for completion in 2013.
The first stage of the changes will be introduced on 4th June when Sokola street is closed. The routes of the four bus lines will be changed: 101, 125, 162 and 512. The second stage will go live on 11 June, when the access to the following line of streets will be closed: Świętokrzyska – Prosta. At that time, the bus routes of the lines: 105, 118, 125, 157, 160, 171, 174, 178, 218, 444, 501, 507, 510 and 512 will be changed. The lines: 109, 128 and 228 will start to operate. The lines: 150, 155, 360, 378, 407 and 506 will be suspended.
Additionally, due to the delay in commissioning of two bus terminus platforms at Złote Tarasy (Central Station renovation), at the time of the simultaneous closures of Świętokrzyska street and two platforms of the above mentioned bus terminus, the bus lines: 109, 160, 210, 444, 501, 507 and 510 will be running a detour route in the area of Central Station
